Review of Modern Divination by Isabel Agajanian

Warning, this book will immediately grip you from the first page! Isabel’s writing is beautiful, vivid and utterly atmospheric. The way they’ve penned, not only the settings and sequence of events, but also their characters, especially Aurelia and Theodore, will have you completely swept up in this magical slice of romantasy. Modern Divination incorporates everything us fantasy lovers need for a cosy feeling witchy read, including a dark academia backdrop, enemies to more... and a threat to witchy life - we LOVE THAT!

What I enjoyed most about Modern Divination (and this may be due to it being the first book in a duology) was that it was more character-driven, where Isabel introduced us to two VERY different main characters. We have semi-prickly Aurelia who likes to keep people at arms length, especially academic rival Theodore, who is trying to cloak himself from his true nature. Although somewhat different, these two compliment one another, complexity and all. After a fatal evening, there seems to be a witch hunter in the mist...can both Aurelia and Theodore survive long enough to unmask the villain?

There’s mystery, chemistry and action! Although there were parts of Modern Divination I felt were MAJOR slow burn, in hindsight this contributed towards the charm and unravelling / development of both the characters and storyline. Now, bring on book two!
