Review of Murder for Two by Niyla Farook

Writer's picture: thedebutdigestthedebutdigest

Ani and Riri are twins who were separated at 6 months old by their divorced parents. Estranged from one another, they are then forced to spend a summer together. Will they be able to cope with their forced proximity, especially when their lives are thrown into a tailspin when there’s a murder and the suspect may be closer to them than originally thought? Can the summer of amateur sleuthing bring two sisters closer together?

I adored Murder for Two! Ani and Riri are, on the surface, incredibly different, Ani is loud and observative, whereas Riri is quiet and prefers the germ-free existence away from people with her much-loved books. I loved how Niyla wrote her characters, as well as injecting autistic and cultural representation into her debut. I adore both Ani and Riri, as well as the themes of sisterhood, family and finding one’s identity.... and incredible sleuthing of course!
