Review of Somewhere New by Annie Bennet

I have never loved and shipped two characters more than I did Aster and Callum! I was immediately spellbound by Somewhere New, the first instalment in Annie Bennet’s ‘Isle of Doughnut’ series.

After a break up, Aster escapes to the safety of the Scottish Isles to hide amongst the botany of the island. Little does he know that he’ll find more than flowers here! So begins a tale of romantic chemistry, forced proximity and pygmy goats... oh and Callum, a silent yet sensitive soul who has his heart locked away following the tragic murder of his family.

I really loved the characters and the way that Annie created so many layers to their characterisation, as well as their personal development. Callum’s story especially is a heart-churning one, and I found my heart resonated with the ordeal that he went though in terms of guilt and grief. The writing is beautiful. As you journey through the pages you’ll laugh, smile, cry and, as the story ends, no doubt you’ll be left feeling more than excited about what the future holds for our two main characters! Bring on instalment two!
