Review of The Persians by Sanam Mahloudji

Writer's picture: thedebutdigestthedebutdigest

4th Estate are set yet again to blow us away with another year of stellar debuts! In The Persians, we follow five women from three generations of a once wealthy and well-respected  Iranian family as their lives are turned upside down and their high-class veneer begins to crack. We travel from Iran to America, from the 1940s to the 2000s as these women navigate personal and poltical struggles that are as funny as they are moving. I love novels on families in crisis that span generations and this ambitious debut was no exception. Sanam Mahloudhi is a writer to watch.
